Opening of 'Roots' exhibition at Tipperary Arts Centre, Clonmel

(L-R) Geraldine Jackman (Artist) & Ronnie Fitzgerald (Director, South Tipperary Arts Centre)

The exhibition was opened on Saturday 26th February by Ronnie Fitzgerald, Director of South Tipperary Arts Centre. There was a good turnout and the show seems to be getting a good response from the public. Several of my works sold on the day, which was wonderful. The exhibition will continue to run until 9 April 2011.

Many thanks to everyone who came to the opening, and a special thanks to Ronnie and all the staff at STAC for all their help.  www.southtipparts.com

'Roots' exhibition - South Tipperary Arts Centre

‘Roots’, an exhibition by Tipperary artist Geraldine Jackman, will run from 26th February – 9th April at the South Tipperary Arts Centre, Nelson Street, Clonmel.

The opening of the exhibition will take place at 2pm on Saturday 26th February and all are welcome to attend.

This exhibition features a series of mixed media artworks and is inspired by, and focuses on, places encumbered with dereliction and features of the material environment. Geraldine frequently uses reclaimed materials and found or discarded objects including photographs as sources of inspiration for her artworks. Memory is also an important element in her work, focusing on the personal and shared sense of history attached to objects and photographs. The process is a central part of Geraldine’s artistic practice, and focuses on the use of different materials such as wax, latex, plaster and resin.

“The objects and photographs from which I work suggest a vanished period, nostalgia, a moment that is now gone. I am attracted to the elusive and mysterious nature of these objects, the deeply rooted emotional resonance inherent in these pieces.”
