Geraldine Jackman at Tipperary Excel Art Gallery – ‘Presence & Absence II’

Tipperary artist Geraldine Jackman currently has an exhibition of artwork on show at Tipperary Excel Art Gallery, Mitchell Street, Tipperary Town running from 2nd December 2011 to 2nd Jan 2012. Opening hours: Monday - Friday 10.00am - 5.00pm

Geraldine’s artwork is inspired by past histories of people and places, and often incorporates reclaimed materials and found or discarded objects, including photographs. Her current practice mainly consists of a reconstruction of these histories and explores how objects trigger memories and emotional responses. It is this aspect that gives her work its subjectivity. The various histories of her subject matter are revitalized and re-presented in this exhibition; their presence is felt all the more strongly through a prevailing sense of absence.

Geraldine’s exhibition will include a ‘Meet the Artist’ day where members of the public are welcome to come and have an informal chat with the artist about her work and art practice. Date to be announced.

Geraldine Jackman graduated from the Limerick School of Art and Design with an Honours BA Degree in Fine Art Painting in June 2010. Her recent solo exhibtiions have included the South Tipperary Arts Centre, Clonmel, in January 2011, and Birr Theatre and Arts Centre in September 2011. She has been selected to participate in the group exhibition ‘Irish Wave 3’ in March 2012 in Beijing, China. She lives in Golden, Co. Tipperary and has work in private collections in Ireland, England, France and Australia.
